jackson.org 3 COVID-19: Jackson Hospital rises to the challenge Joe Riley, President and CEO of Jackson Hospital & Physician Clinic COMMUNITY HOSPITAL NEWS Since COVID-19 arrived in the River Region, Jackson Hospital has been living out its mission to improve the health of all members of our community by providing superior, patient-centered and cost-effective care in a safe, compas- sionate environment. Despite the dif- ficulties in adapting to this new normal, our hospital has put strict COVID-19 protocols in place quickly to limit visitors, check temperatures and help prevent the spread of the virus. Keeping you safe We also increased the use of the Tru-D infection-killing robot throughout the hospital. The robot produces UV light energy to disinfect an entire room at the push of a button, helping to eliminate human error and destroying pathogens. Tru-D utilizes Sensor360 technology, which allows it to calculate variables within the room, such as size, geometry and location of equipment, and then deliver a precise and lethal amount of UVC light from one single location in the room. Jackson Hospital was the first hos- pital in the River Region to use Tru-D. This has allowed us to refine the use of this technology, which has proved vital during the pandemic. Tru-D is the only disinfection system used by healthcare facilities that has been CDC-funded and undergone random clinical trials to measure the effectiveness of disin- fection. These trials have shown that the robot is capable of reducing the transmission of healthcare-associated infections by up to 30 percent and can fight deadly pathogens such as C. diff , MRSA and COVID-19. Caring for each other Our top priority continues to be the health, safety and well-being of our team members, physicians, patients, visitors, and community. We continue to work closely with local, state, and federal agen- cies in order to implement recommenda- tions for all of our continued safety. We also continue to support the mental health of our team members working through this difficult crisis while manag- ing the myriad of unknowns. We have provided resources through our Employee Assistance Program, regular informational updates and daily coping/stress relief tips. I continue to be inspired by our Jackson Teams caring for those we serve. Our community has been overwhelm- ingly supportive in assisting our teams and we are truly, immensely grateful. The kindness and generosity poured out highlights the River Region’s individuals and businesses who have come together for the greater good during these unprec- edented times. “ I continue to be inspired by our Jackson Teams caring for those we serve.”
