TIDBITS HSI Health Fair and School Supply Drive The HSI Health Fair and School Supply Drive saw another great turnout this year! We partnered with Health Services Inc. to sup- ply school supplies to children in our community and provide free health screenings before kids went back to school. Our staff at Jackson Hospital donated hundreds of notebooks, folders and packs of paper to give away at this event. We thank them for their giving spirit and dedication to giving back to others. New Phlebotomy Apprentices Jackson Hospital pinned four new phlebotomy apprentices at our first-ever phlebotomy apprentice graduation ceremony! The phlebotomy apprentice program was created at Jackson Hospital in an effort to recruit and employ qualified phle- botomists. With the help of laboratory staff, our education department and human resources, the phlebotomy apprentice program was created. The program includes 40 hours of classroom training, train- ing in the simulation lab, doing lab rotations, job shadowing and performing blood collections. Apprentices who complete the program are eligible to take the national certification exam. The program allows apprentices to learn a valuable and much-needed skill, and the hospital gains phlebotomists who are well-trained and demonstrate Jackson Hospital values. Congratulations to our team for their hard work in creating this program! www.jackson.org 5 Made for Moms This year at Made for Moms, the Family Birth Center staff at Jackson Hospital focused on education for new and expecting moms. Our lactation specialists were on hand to talk about the importance of breastfeeding and answer any questions moms had. Our experienced nurses were also on hand to discuss initia- tives in the Family Birth Center to help both mom and baby make a smooth transition into this new season of life, includ- ing skin-to-skin contact, quiet time while at the hospital and the “Golden Hour” immediately following birth. We thank our expert team for their dedication to all things mom and baby.
