A fond
farewell
DEAR FRIENDS AND
COMMUNITY MEMBERS:
As I write my final column
as president and CEO of Jack-
son Hospital, I am struck by the
many warm and friendly people
that I have met during my time
in Montgomery.
There have been many
changes during the nearly seven
years that my family and I have
lived in the River Region, and
I’m proud that Jackson Hospi-
tal has continued to grow to meet the healthcare needs of our
community.
Some of the improvements we have undertaken in the last
few years include the construction of the Jackson Imaging and
Jackson Surgery centers; the introduction of robotic surgery to
Montgomery; the accreditation of our chest pain center; the
implementation of electronic medical records; and the growth
of the Jackson Clinic to include primary care, specialists, and
urgent care physicians.
We are also pleased to welcome the new River Region Health
Center to our campus, which will provide a medical primary
care home for the area’s underinsured residents.
But these achievements are not made by one individual. My
sincere thanks go to our employees, our medical staff members
and our many volunteers for their support and dedication to our
success.
As the healthcare environment continues to evolve locally
and nationally, I believe that Jackson Hospital is well positioned
to continue to provide the safe, compassionate care that you
have come to expect over the last 65 years.
My best wishes,
Don Henderson | President and CEO
Editor’s Note:
Don Henderson left Jackson Hospital in January 2012 to take a
similar position with Central Florida Healthcare Alliance. The hos-
pital’s Board of Trustees has begun the process of selecting a new
president and CEO.
INSIDE
MY HOSPITAL
Thanks to funding made possible by generous donations to
the Jackson Hospital Foundation, the hospital’s sixth floor
was completely refurbished at a cost of more than $400,000.
The home of the Orthopedic & Joint Center and the Ad-
vanced Spine Center, this busy floor was closed in phases over
several months to complete the transformation. Highlights of
the improvements include:
New tile flooring
New wall coverings and paint
New raised-height toilets
New signage with improved visitor wayfinding
New patient room guest furniture
“These renovations have really made a difference for a pa-
tients and visitors,” said Gretchen Vercher, RN, orthopedic,
neurologic and oncology services director at Jackson Hospital.
“In addition to the aesthetic improvements, the new floor-
ing and toilets enhance patient safety and comfort, especially
[for] those recovering from total joint replacement.”
Thank you to the many supporters whose contributions
make a lasting impact on the health of our community.
