8 Jackson Hospital COMMUNITY The Family Birth Center at Jackson Hospital is well-equipped to care for you and your new bundle of joy. As you bring your new baby into the world, the Family Birth Center has your safety, security and comfort in mind. From TotGuard bracelets to expertly trained staff, we are here to make sure your delivery is the best day of your life! Secure, expert care Safety is at the top of every new parent’s mind, and the Family Birth Center at Jackson Hospital uses industry-leading safety features. The TotGuard system uses an RFID (radio frequency identification) tag that is attached to your baby’s umbili- cal clamp or worn as a wearable band. Infants are assigned a “mother tag,” which identifies a mother to her baby. Babies with TotGuard can be detected if they are moved outside of the Family Birth Center, and the system will automatically shut down all stairwells and exit doors. Special Care Nursery Our Special Care Nursery is equipped to handle newborns who require additional or specialized care after birth.With our team of highly trained neonatologists and nursing staff specializing in caring for newborns, you can trust Jackson Hospital with what matters most. The Family Birth Center is equipped to care for babies who: •  Were born prematurely and need extra care •  Have potential health issues, such as jaundice, low blood sugar or temporary breathing problems •  Were born with low birth weight exceptional Making your birth experience FAMILY BIRTH CENTER •  Need feeding assistance •  Require special equipment to maintain their temperature The Special Care Nursery uses a variety of treatment options depending on your baby’s needs, including: •  IV therapy •  Antibiotic treatment •  Phototherapy •  Thermoregulation •  Feeding tube/feeding assistance •  Oxygen therapy La’Brisa with her baby girl, Nova, and their amazing nurses: Alexis Strickland, RN, Christina McKenzie, RN, and Cindy Fryer, RN
