jackson.org 13 Nurses are the backbone of any hospital, and that is no exception at Jackson Hospital. Nurses are the ones who calm your nerves, hold your hand and wipe your tears. Being a nurse is an undeniably tough job. Nurse recruiters have the task of finding those stellar nurses who can care for our patients as if they were family. Our nurse recruiters, Mandy Baker and Linda Hill, have a unique perspective into recruiting new nurses because they are nurses themselves. We sat down with Baker and Hill to learn more about why being a nurse is important to them and what nurse recruitment means to them, the hospital and the community. What inspired you to become a nurse? Baker: Growing up, my dad always told me that my compassion for others and my caring nature would make for a great nurse. With encouragement from my family and friends, I decided that nursing was what I wanted to do. What makes nurse recruitment so important to you, as a nurse? Hill: As a nurse, I am passionate about quality and compassionate nursing care, and I love being a part of the process that chooses the very best nurses to be a part of Jackson Hospital. I want every patient who comes through our doors to experience the very best care possible, from the very best nurses. Why are great nurses vital for the good of the hospital? Baker: Nurses are working on the front lines at every hospital. They are there throughout your care, day and night, and know their patients like family. If you have the best pos- sible patient care from a nurse, everything else falls into place. What do you look for in new nurses when interviewing them for Jackson Hospital? Hill: When hiring nurses, I look for someone who has a passion for the nursing profession; someone who is genuine, compassionate, dedicated to quality care and excited about being a nurse! Someone who loves what they do and wants to be a part of the Jackson Hospital family. Jackson Hospital’s nurse recruitment team knows what it means when nurses love their job. When you love what you do, you are motivated to always go above and beyond. Nurses have touched every one of our lives at some point or another, and our success as a hospital is not possible without these caregiv- ers who spend their lives mending others in their time of need. of a hospital How Jackson Hospital recruits great nurses “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” —Mahatma Gandhi Job incentives and career growth Find out about job opportunities at jackson.org/careers .
