8 Jackson Hospital The second annual Mustache Run 5K was held September 29 and saw over 200 runners cross the finish line! While the event is fun for the entire family— with giant yard games, music and a lounge area—the purpose of the run is a very important topic. Our health is important and something we should all take control of. For men, important preventive care like wellness checkups and prostate exams are some- times pushed aside for another time. There are several health conditions that are more likely to affect men than women, including prostate cancer, colon cancer and heart disease. Early interven- tion is key to prolonging the life of a man affected by these diseases, but that can’t happen if checkups and testing aren’t performed routinely. The Mustache Run is a family-inclusive event, because many times it’s not just the man taking an interest in his own health, it’s the entire family.
