The Jackson Imaging Center recently introduced brand-new 3-D mammogra- phy technology that not only produces a more complete picture of the breast, but also provides peace of mind for women, knowing their mammogram will be as comfortable as possible. The Jackson Imaging Center offers 3-Dmammograms Next-level Greater accuracy 3-D mammography, also referred to as digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) or tomo, is one of the latest technological innovations in women’s healthcare. It enables images of the whole breast to be taken in slices and then reconstructed in 3-D. With a more complete picture of the breast, 3-D mammography has been shown to significantly improve cancer detection. A 3-D mammography exam is similar to a standard mammogram. The main difference is that during the scan, the x-ray tube will move to capture multiple images of the breast from different angles. 3-D mammography is performed with the same level of compression and takes approximately the same amount of time as a regular 2-D mammogram. A better experience This new mammography technology has redesigned the experience of a mammo- gram, focused on comfort and precision. Previously, patients would have to hold a hand grip on the machine, which can tense muscles and cause discomfort. During a 3-D mammogram, patients can place their arms on an armrest and relax the shoulder muscles, which can help simplify compression and capture better images of the breast.
