jackson.org 9 BREAST CANCER RISK ASSESSMENT RISK FACTORS YOU CAN’T CHANGE: • Women age 50+ • Inherited gene mutations, such as BRCA1 or BRCA2 • Early menstrual cycles (before 12 years old) and starting menopause after age 55 • Dense breast tissue • Personal or family history of breast cancer • Previous radiation therapy treatment to the chest or breasts before age 30 RISK FACTORS YOU CAN CHANGE: • Not being physically active • Being overweight or obese after menopause • Hormone replacement therapies and certain oral contraceptives • Reproductive history (first pregnancy after 30, not breastfeeding) • Alcohol consumption Source: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
