“This award inspires
me to help student

—Jasmin Pratt-Minor
Jackson Hospital
nurse Jasmin
Pratt-Minor was honored with the Pam
Wolfe Award at the Medical Society of
Montgomery County awards banquet
held May 5.
Pratt-Minor joined Jackson Hospital
in July 2012 as a night shift nurse in the
oncology unit. After conducting an infor-
mal study of her peers about retention,
she determined that nurse retention rates
would be higher if new graduate nurses
had more support during their transition
to a clinical environment. She suggested
that Jackson Hospital develop a support
group for new graduates, and the group
was formed and meets quarterly.
“Jasmin is a great asset to Jackson
Hospital,” said Gretchen Vercher, RN,
director of orthopedic, neurology and
oncology services at Jackson Hospital.
“She is a hard worker with a true passion
for excellent patient care. We are blessed
to have such a dedicated nurse on our
oncology unit.”

program, PEARLS. She graduated from
Tuskegee University nursing school.
“It is an honor to be a recipient of the
PamWolfe Award,” Pratt-Minor said. “As
a young adult in high school, I suffered
many challenges. Being able to excel at
my chosen profession of nursing is just so
surreal. I wanted to make a difference, so I
took the risk of leaving my home state of
California to come to Alabama and attend
Tuskegee University. This award inspires
me to help student nurses transition into
professionals, and it encourages me to
become a better nurse and learn more.”
The PamWolfe Award is a service
award dedicated to the memory of Pam
Wolfe, RN, who served as nurse manager
on the surgical floor of a Montgomery
hospital. She was recognized by her peers
and faculty for her leadership, beauty and
devotion to nursing. She exemplified true
leadership, a strong work ethic, a positive
attitude and devotion to her patients.
The annual award ceremony is spon-
sored by the Medical Society of Mont-
gomery County.
